It's time again for Radio Daze, the Northland Antique Radio Club's main event of the year! Both the Pavek Museum and the Antique Wireless Association (AWA) continue as supporting sponsors.

This will be our first swap meet since the outdoor mini-swap meet at the February 2020 Radio Workshop, so we expect good attendance and an abundance of radios and related items offered for sale.

The schedule for this 34th Radio Daze event will be very similar to our past Radio Daze events. The auction of vintage radio equipment will be held Friday evening, and the swap meet, radio contest, and program will be on Saturday, all at the Comfort Inn Plymouth. The Comfort Inn is located near the intersection of highways 55 and 494 in Plymouth, Minnesota. If you want to stay at the hotel, room rates are only $90.00 (plus tax) per night for either Double or King rooms, Thursday through Saturday nights. Just mention "Radio Daze" to get this special reduced rate. The Comfort Inn's reservation phone number is (763) 559-1222.

The meet begins with a large antique radio auction in the hotel main ballroom at 7:00 pm, Friday September 10. This is an entertaining auction and there will be a good variety of radios available (217 were auctioned at the previous Radio Daze auction). If you want to sell your radio(s) at the auction, check them in between 2:00 and 6:00 pm Friday. You can download or print an Auction Entry Form if you want to fill it out (10 lots maximum) before arriving. This auction is always well attended and is an inexpensive way to sell your vintage radios. There are no buyer or seller percentage fees. The only charge to sell is a flat $5 per item entry fee, plus an additional $2 if you want the item to have a reserve price. Auction preview is 6:00 to 7:00 pm, with the auction starting at 7:00 pm. Auction details are in the Radio Daze 2021 brochure.

Saturday begins shortly after dawn with a swap meet in the hotel parking lot. Please note that the permit from the City of Plymouth does not allow sales prior to Saturday. The hospitality room will be open at 7:00 am with hot coffee and rolls. The registration table opens at 8:00 am.

Please bring something from your collection to enter in the radio contest! The contest has some new categories as described in the Radio Daze 2021 brochure. Item check in for the contest will be from 11:00 am to 11:45 am, with viewing from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, and you can pick your entry up any time after 2:00 pm.

Lunch will not be served in the Hospitality Room this year, but nearby options include Lucky's 13 Pub within the hotel and other restaurants nearby, including Perkins, Arby's, Burger King, Wendy's, Davanni's Pizza, and others.

The Saturday program begins at 2:00 pm and includes contest awards, door prizes, and a Sherlock Holmes radio play performed by The Red-Throated League of the Norwegian Explorers. They have performed entertaining radio plays, complete with costumes, props and sound effects for more than two decades and NARC is excited to have them for our entertainment at Radio Daze 2021!

Registration is required for admittance to all indoor events, the Hospitality Room, the Pavek Museum, and to sell items in the parking lot. Registration is encouraged, but not required, for anyone just attending the auction or buying at the swap meet. You can pre-register (and save $3.00) by returning a pre-registration form before September 3rd. After you arrive, please pick up your name badge and other materials at the registration table in the hotel's main ballroom.

Registering for Radio Daze also gives you free admission to the Pavek Museum on September 10 and 11. The museum has been closed during the pandemic and spent that time undergoing some extensive remodeling, so be sure to stop by to check it out! The museum is located at 3517 Raleigh Avenue in St. Louis Park, Minnesota and will open at 10:00 am sharp on both Friday and Saturday. They are no longer holding garage sales.

The auction, the swap meet, the contest and program, and seeing our radio collecting friends again, keeps us coming back. Please mark September 10 and 11, 2021, on your calendar today!

COVID-19

Anyone experiencing a fever, cough, shortness of breath, or any other known symptom of COVID-19, is asked not to attend Radio Daze nor visit the Pavek museum.

Please bring your mask with you. Masks will be required to be worn at the Pavek museum and during all events held in the hotel ballroom due to the close proximity of many people. This includes everyone attending the auction, contest, program, and annual meeting except those working the auction, public speakers, and those presenting the program, as they need to be heard.
