RADIO DAZE 2007

It's time to start thinking about Radio Daze!

Mark your calendars for Radio Daze 2007 on May 18-19, 2007 - we promise you'll have a great time!

Radio Daze 2007, the Upper Midwest's ultimate radio collecting event, will be held again at the usual location, at the Comfort Inn of Plymouth, located at the northwest corner of I-494 and Hwy. 55 in Plymouth, Minnesota. Those who have attended Radio Daze for the past several years can attest to how well this facility has worked out. Room rates are $71.00 plus tax per night for either a single or a double room. The Comfort Inn's reservation phone number is (763)559-1222.

This is NARC's premier event. It is also co-sponsored by both the Antique Wireless Association (AWA) and the Pavek Museum of Broadcasting and offers a two day swap meet, auction, radio contest, program, and an awards presentation. It is an event which is well attended by prominent radio collectors from across the country. The radio contest is well represented with equipment displayed from the early 1920's to the 1960's. Flyers will be mailed in mid-April to all known radio collectors in the five state area.

Friday's activities start at dawn with the parking lot swap meet which will be open all day. (Please note that the permit from the City of Plymouth does not allow any selling prior to Friday morning.) The hospitality room will be open at 8:00 am with hot coffee and rolls. Hot dogs with cookies and snacks will be available starting at 11:30am. The registration room, coordinated by Mary Farmer, opens at 10:00 am.

The auction, which is always a highlight of Radio Daze, will be held 6:30 Friday evening with merchandise check in beginning at 5:00 pm and viewing at 5:30 pm. As in past years, Ed Ripley will be our auctioneer, with auction coordinator Don Hauff handling registration and check in.

Note: We are always looking for good items for the Radio Daze auction, so please let us know if you have any special radios you want to consign and want advertised. Also, if you are thinning out your collection, please contact us about selling it at Radio Daze.

A visit to the Pavek Museum of Broadcasting is always a highlight of 'Radio Daze'. The Pavek museum is located at 3515 Raleigh Avenue in St. Louis Park and will be open at 10:00 am sharp on Friday and again on Saturday for their annual garage sale. Make sure you are displaying your Radio Daze name tag for free admission.

Saturday begins with the parking lot swap meet in the morning. Item check in for the old radio contest will run from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, with viewing from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. The featured contest categorys this year will be 'Best of the Best' for items that have won a blue ribbon in a previous RadioDaze contest, and 'Crosley' - so bring any item with the Crosley name on it and enter it in the contest! Additional categories are described in the Radio Daze 2007 flyer. A trip to the contest room always yields a surprise or two.

NARC will not be hosting a Saturday luncheon this year, but recommends the new Axel's Bonfire restaurant within the hotel. Several other restaurants are nearby, including Perkins, Jake's Sports Bar, and some fast food establishments. The Saturday program begins at 1:00 pm and features KLBB radio announcer Reed Hagen. If you enjoy listening to those great hit tunes from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s on your old radio, it probably has a pushbutton you've set to receive Twin Cities radio station KLBB. Come hear KLBB's Reed Hagen talk about his radio and camera collection, and his 25 years of broadcasting the 'Music of Your Life' at KLBB! This promises to be a very interesting program, so be sure to plan for it.

Registration is required for admittance to all indoor events, the Hospitality Room, the Pavek Museum, and to sell items in the parking lot. Registration is encouraged, but not required, for anyone just attending the auction or buying at the swap meet. You can pre-register (and save $3.00) by returning a registration form before May 11th. After you arrive, pick up your name badge and other materials in the Registration Room.
